Volleyball coverage starts this week!

I love everything about volleyball.

Its quick pace. The excitement late in sets, especially late in the season. And the way you can see a team come together. Or not.

I’ve personally witnessed a lot of very good high school volleyball in Grantsburg. I graduated from there in 1995 (widely acknowledged as the greatest graduating class in GHS history), well into the run of conference and regional championships that would continue to this day.

One of Grantsburg’s biggest advantages is its historical performance. I’m convinced that teams in the area are beaten by the Pirates before the bus even arrives. I also believe that Grantsburg believes they are going to win every set and match. I think the program has been so incredible that there’s an aura of invincibility around it, especially externally.

Belief is such an important element in performing well.

Grantsburg’s volleyball team is one of the most dominant in the state for years and they will be good again this year and into the foreseeable future. That is a fact.

However; a wise man once said to me, “if your dream is big enough, facts don’t matter.”

There is a team out there that, if they’d just believe, they could do the impossible and knock off the Pirates. To them the facts won’t matter. Do I want that personally? No, no way. I bleed purple. But, if someone were to do it, I’d be so happy for them.

Grantsburg has been a volleyball powerhouse in the region, and really the state, since 1989. The above stats aren’t up to date, either. You can mark 2018 down as a conference, regional, and sectional championship. Bringing their state appearances up to 14 in the past 30 years.
